Tesla Wall Connector 3
The most convenient universal home charger
Installed along side PEN Fault detection where required:
PEN fault detection is a safety mechanism used in electrical installations, especially for electric vehicle (EV) chargers. PEN stands for Protective Earth and Neutral. A PEN fault occurs when the joint Protective Earth (PE) and Neutral (N) conductor in an electrical installation becomes disconnected, while the Live connection remains intact.
Here's how it works:
Detection: The PEN fault detection system monitors the electrical supply for any abnormal voltage. If an abnormal voltage is detected, it indicates a potential safety hazard1.
Isolation: When a fault is detected, the system isolates the electrical supply to prevent any dangerous voltages from appearing. This helps protect both the equipment and the user.
Reporting: The fault must be reported to the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) for further investigation and repair.
This system is particularly important for outdoor EV chargers connected to a PME (Protective Multiple Earthing) network, as it ensures safety and compliance with regulations.
